Behind The Photo // Capturing the northern lights in Utah is a test of having one's camera and cold weather gear ready at the drop of a hat, being flexible and willing to alter plans, and making quick decisions on the fly. After being out of town during some prime light displays in years prior, I *HAD* to jump off the couch, ditch my comfy pants, brew up a hot beverage, bundle up in my warmest down coat and make some snap decisions on where to go.
Alta was high on my list, and after I captured the bright red-pink glow above Hellgate, I wanted a different composition. The Alta Welcome Sign was the perfect foreground. The sky remained a lighter pink-red, with a small hint of green.
