WOW!!! Iz LaMotte called me the other day with some amazing news... I didn't even know she had submitted the short documentary about me to any festivals, and it turns out that A) SHE DID, and B) WE GOT INTO THE BANFF MOUNTAIN FILM FESTIVAL, and C) we also got into the Mendi Film Festival in Spain!
I. AM. SPEECHLESS.

I had a great time chatting with Adam Phillips for his "Your Photography Podcast."
Check it out on Apple Podcasts >> Your Photography Podcast If you're curious about my early inspirations, what it was like to intern for Powder Magazine in the early 2000's, handling actual film submissions, fave gear and projects, inspiration from the Financial Feminist, what I'd love to see change in the photo industry, why I LOVE DRIVING, a few new goals, and some tips and advice for photographers just starting out (warning, file organization nerd alert)... give it a listen. Powder Mag is working on a come back! They have launched photo essays, and are currently featuring my story from a visit to Bridger Bowl, MT with Rachael Burks, Claire Smallwood, and Justin Modroo. Check out the foggy ridge views and moody "cowboy pow" here: www.powder.com/photos/bridger-bowl-montana
In honor of International Women's Day, Alta Ski Area has just released their latest Steeped in Tradition Episode, AND- THIS IS WILD YA'LL!- it's focused on me!? I have so many words of thanks for Director Iz La Motte, Producer Mike Brown (Sweetgrass Productions), and all the ladies who have let me point a camera their way over the last 2 decades, ESPECIALLY Rachael Burks who didn't just say yes when I asked if she would be a part of this little film, but she 100%, WHOLEHEARTEDLY INSISTED that she be involved. We had limited filming days, and each one was one for the books! I am so honored to have my story told through the athletes, interviews, and creatives behind the scenes. Check out more info, quotes, photos, and the video here: https://www.alta.com/stories/re
Thanks to the work of fellow creative and photographer Natalie Starr, The Radavist has been highlighting women from Natalie's list of Women, Trans, Femme, and Non-Binary Photographers, which she is constantly updating. You can check out the latest spotlight, including a few photos from yours truly on the Radavist here: https://theradavist.com/creative-exposure-wtf-nb-database-photographers-videographers/
Choosing a top 5 was SUPER-RIDICULOUSLY-HARD!!! Just for the record. I have a hard enough time choosing the 13 images for my annual fine art calendar, and I have worked with so many talented women who are ALL deserving of recognition, and it was honestly heart-wrenching to leave some people out. JUST STICK MY HEART THROUGH THE MEAT GRINDER.
As most people know, our beloved Powder Magazine closed its doors last year. No more print publication. No more Powder Video Awards. HOWEVER, a small light still flickers in the dark void by way of the legendary Dave Reddick, former Director of Photography for Powder and Bike. Despite the shut down, he has been regularly publishing the Depth of Field series, honoring the photographers he has worked with over the years and challenging them to choose their top five images and offer insights behind them. Dave's influence on the ski photo world, by way of Powder, has shaped many careers, and mine was no exception. I had to say yes. I offered up more insight into my career trajectory, and some factors in my youth that had another big hand in shaping my direction and the point of view I bring to the lens. They aren't things I talk about much in person, though perhaps I should. https://www.powder.com/photo-galleries/depth-of-field-re-wikstrom I'm unsure if it feels cathartic of comedic, but here it is: an interview with the Italian magazine Il Fotografo where I took a chance on unveiling some extra things I rarely shed light on. This article was originally created in Italian and later translated to an english version (hence the comedic relief, or maybe that's just the mere mention of my awkward teen years accomplishing that).
Either way, it was a pleasure to share my work across the pond in a print issue dedicated to the Art of Action Photography. |
